Poor performance by County as Limerick 37 hit four

Limerick 37 4 Kildare County 0

Limerick 37 were the only ones celebrating at Jackman Park last Night as they inflicted another heavy defeat on John Ryan’s squad.

John Ryan was forced into changes as Baba Isaaka deputized fat left full for the departed Barry Clancy and Colin Murray was drafted into right full position for his debut for County.

Limerick had organized a barbecue to attract fans on this the 4th July. Unfortunately the weather was not kind to Limerick 37 as rain ruined what could have been a marvelous night. Despite the weather goals by Gary Sheehan (2), Tommy Barrett and David Tynan more than wiped away the dull clouds that hung over Jackman Park.

Limerick looked up for this game from the start and almost opening the scoring inside the opening two minutes when Colin Murray deflected inches wide of his own post.

County responded with a Michael Roche header from a Colin Fortune free kick which drifted dangerously toward the far post.

At the other end, Chukwuma Manjor slipped a ball through for Sheehan who was denied by the legs of ex-Lims keeper Austin O'Neill. Both Manjor and Sheehan were to prove to be a handful for the county defence all night.

After eleven minutes Paul Danagher had an effort cleared off the line by Barry Slattery and a minute later Barrett scored after a needless free on Chukwuma Manjor was conceded 30 yards out and Tommy Barrett Took full advantage by drilling a low 30-yard free kick under the wall into the net with O’Neills desperate dive failing to prevent the goal.

Paul Walsh's audacious lob almost doubled his side's advantage on the 16th minute - but O'Neill- who must have had a red face after his under hit kick out landed nicely for Walsh. However O Neill redeemed himself as he got back to clear..

Sheehan - who notched both goals in last weekend's 2-0 away win over Dundalk – Sheehan netted a contender for goal of the season after 30 minutes, running from just inside the opposition's half and leaving three defenders in his wake on the right before hammering low and hard into the net from inside the box on the half-hour mark.

Mike Kerley's side then hit their third after 36 minutes when David Ryan broke in from the left before seeing his cross-cum-shot deflected off O'Neill over the line with Walshe making sure the ball hit the back of the net.

The hard-working Manjor almost made it four after 8 minutes but O'Neill once again saved with his legs before Sheehan found the net after 21 minutes of the second half with another class finish from inside the box after a poor kick out.

Kildare were reduced to free kicks by Fortune which went narrowly wide and Isaaka which nipped the wall to go for a corner.

In the final minute Morgan crossed but the inrushing Robinson failed to get a toe to it and

So the last chance for a consolation goal fizzled out on an overall poor performance once again by County.
