Debut for Ger

Ger O�Brien played the full ninety minutes for the Rep. Of Ireland in their four Nations clash with England at Banff in Scotland yesterday. �I was happy with my game and contribution to the win� said a delighted Ger after playing his first game in the Irish Shirt and seeing his side prevail on a 3-2 scoreline. Skipper Steve Guinan gave England the lead after four minutes.

John Flood equalised for the Republic after good approach work by Eamon Zayed. Irish captain Daryl Murphy set up Zayed for Irelands second and a minute later it was 3-1 to Ireland when Galway United player John Russell, celebrated his nineteenth birthday with a fine strike from twelve yards.

Steve Guinan netted his second for England in the 68th. minute but Ireland ran out worthy winners. They now take on the hosts Scotland at Bellsea Park, Fraserburgh on Thursday evening at 7.45pm, when late call-up Alan Byrne will be hoping to be in the starting lineup.
